John Hourian, ASLA
Principal
John Hourian is the Principle of Hourian Associates and has been in the profession of Landscape Architecture since 1969 and then founding Hourian Associates in 1989. His experience in environmental design has involved a broad range of services from consulting to master planning and site design. The scope of his projects, in both the private and public sectors, includes commercial retail, country clubs, entry monument design, custom residential, parks/recreation, open space studies, wetlands and stream restoration.
With his passion for Landscape Architecture, he has built on a background of more than 30 years, successfully delivering only the highest level of unique design and services to his clients.
The firm has built a reputation for taking an active role with their clients with a hands-on approach to every design aspect and detail.
Hourian began his journey in 1969 graduating from the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Environmental Design, majoring in Landscape Architecture. Following this, he is also proud to have been one of the three founding members of the CLASS Fund (California Landscape Architectural Student Scholarship), designed to assist undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in programs in landscape architecture and ornamental horticulture in California. Hourian has assisted others to realize their dreams of a similar career. He also remains as a current member of American Society of Landscape Architecture (ASLA) and served as the past President of the Southern California Chapter in 1975 and 1980.
Karen Medeiros
Sr. Project Manager
Karen Medeiros is an accomplished Landscape Designer who brings more than 24 years of experience in residential and commercial projects to Hourian Associates. As the Sr. Project Manager, her primary focus is on overall project coordination involving the preparation of conceptual and design development plans, construction documents and specifications. She derives her design ideas from the physical, cultural, and historical aspects of the site. As a result, her designs often tell a story and infuse meaning into her work.
Karen attended Kansas State University College of Architecture, Planning and Design Landscape Architecture Department and Art Center College of Design for Architectural Rendering.
Mark D. Minick
Sr. Irrigation Manager, Consultant
Mark Minick, a landscape professional, who has been in the industry for more than 22 years, has built an expertise background in Irrigation and Planning Design, Preliminary Landscape plans, as well as Construction Documents.
As Sr. Irrigation Manager, his role includes all aspects of design and drafting of small residential up to large master planned communities, from small commercial projects to resort projects. He is familiar with a variety of CADD programs which allows him to bring his expertise to every project.
Mark attended Arizona State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Design Degree in Landscape Architecture. Having continued his education working privately with many other firms in the industry, Mark knows what it takes to see every project through.
Rob Anderson
Project Coordinator, Consultant
Rob Anderson has more than 11 years of professional experience that he brings to Hourian Associates. He has an extensive background in residential and commercial projects with his primary role being CAD Operator, Irrigation Designer and Project Coordinator. He is experienced in Irrigation & Planting Design on a wide variety of projects, including residential work, city parks and facilities, multi-use parks, HOA common areas and more.
Anderson attended Arizona State University’s College of Architecture & Environmental Design, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Landscape Architecture. His strong background allows him to bring a charter for developing thoughtful, functioning design solutions on a foundation of dedicated client service.
Joe DeVito
Project Manager
Joe DeVito has been in the industry for more than 9 years and brings a fresh sense and new look to Hourian Associates. His career extends to landscape design, master planning, urban designing and construction management in which he brings a discipline eye to detail on all projects. His personal approach to the design process with clients and consultants maintains the professional thought Hourian brings to all projects.
Joe graduated from California Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Bachelor of Art Degree in Environmental Design with an emphasis in Landscape Architecture.
Nicole Hourian
Design Development
Nicole Hourian has more than 10 years of consumer business experience. She has acquired an extensive background in product design and development, which has been vital to the growth and expansion of her past and present projects. She brings to Hourian Associates a diverse skill set which has played an integral part in linking together many key facets in ever growing office setting. Her excellent people skills and fresh, new ideas have brought both a useful and wonderful element to the company.
Nicole has a Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Arizona in Consumer Business. Her consumer business and marketing experience are helping propel the company into many positive new directions.
Suzi Conroy
Executive Assistant
Suzi Conroy, Executive Assistant, brings a comprehensive background with over 15 years in management to the team. Communicating daily with clients, scheduling meetings, drafting proposals and correspondence, as well as, assisting in project specific research brings Hourian Associates to the highest level of professionalism. Suzi utilizes her "people-oriented" style and strong management skills in coordinating the fluid operation of a very busy office.
