MARILYN MILLER

Holistic Nutritional Counselor, Platt Medical Center

“Ten years ago I attended a lecture which I thought was about weight loss. The instructor began describing how our digestive system works and I thought I was in the wrong lecture hall. As I listened I became fascinated with the intricate details of the journey our food makes from the time we put it in our mouth until we eliminate it. At the end of the lecture I was upset that I had never been taught how my body works. Of all the things we learn in life you would think we would be taught how our bodies work and how to take care of them. That was the beginning of my quest to learn as much as I could about how to take care of my body.

At the time I suffered from migraine headaches, fatigue and I had a lot of stress in my life. When I learned about food sensitivities and food intolerance I eliminated sugar, dairy and grains from my diet and the migraine headaches, that had plagued me for years, disappeared. It was like a miracle. I continued to eat fruits, vegetables, lots of salads and a little chicken and fish and I was no longer fatigued or troubled with constipation. My skin glowed, my nails grew, my hair shined and I had endless energy. I was so excited about how I was feeling and what I was learning I talked about it to anyone who would listen.

I read every book that interested me about the digestive system, health and wellness; and I attended classes and seminars as they came to my attention.

"My motto is ‘the body has the ability to heal and repair itself, if you give it what it needs and take away what is harming it’. It is wonderful to work with medical doctors who believe in a holistic approach to health so we can offer our patients the best of both worlds.”

I enrolled in a six week wellness course sponsored by Clinical Health Institute and enjoyed it so much I continued my education with them. At the end of the year they invited me to join them as an instructor for their food sensitivity course, which I taught for another year.

At that time I was a mortgage broker and owned a very successful business. But I had become much more interested in natural wellness and decided to sell my business and go back to school and follow my passion. I enrolled in Clayton College of Natural Health and pursued my education in Holistic Nutrition.

I have been living and teaching holistic nutrition and natural wellness since I graduated from Clayton College of Natural Health. I have never lost my passion to teach as many people as I can about how their bodies work and how they can prevent disease and restore the health they have lost. My education and experience have taught me that the body can heal and repair itself if you give it what it needs and take away what is harming it. It is the joy of my life to help everyone I can to improve the quality of their life and be healthy and vibrant again.

I moved to Palm Desert in 2001. My mother came to visit me and she had an appointment with Dr. Platt. She wanted me to come with her to see what I thought about him. I began my research on him and watched him on the Wellness Hour before going to the appointment. I liked what I heard and was very excited to meet him and see what his practice was all about. Needless to say my mother and I thought the world of him. When Dr. Platt was finished with my mother’s consultation he turned to me and asked me what I did for a living and that was the beginning of a very happy three years working for him as a nutrition consultant.

At the end of 2004 I moved out of state to be closer to my three grown children and seven grandchildren. I continued my education, attending lectures and seminars, reading books and keeping up with the latest research, and working with practitioners who could teach me what they knew. I worked with a naturopath, homeopathic practitioner, and a master herbalist for two and half years before returning to Palm Desert.

I am very happy to be working again with Dr. Platt, Dr. Carr, and the wonderful staff, all of whom are devoted to preventive medicine and natural wellness. Being at Platt Medical Center is not work; it is a joy and a wonderful opportunity to continually learn from Dr. Platt’s wisdom and insight of the importance of natural hormone replacement therapy and wellness.

When I am not at work I am enjoying life with my wonderful husband. We love to head for the beach or the mountains during the summer heat. In the cooler months we look forward to hiking in the beautiful desert canyons. I love movies, dancing, reading, traveling, skiing and spending time with my family.”
