New Platt Medical Center associate Dr. John D. Carr, who was born and raised in Rhode Island, attended the University of Miami, Florida, as both an undergraduate and medical student. As a medical student, he trained at a big county hospital, Jackson Memorial, where he worked in the trauma center. As a resident at Cornell/Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, he rotated between three facilities – Cornell/Sloan-Kettering Cancer (a specialty hospital), Northshore Hospital in Long Island (private), and New York Hospital in Manhattan (public). He later became Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Ft.
